My mum was a huge fan off the festivities around December so I guess I have her to blame for my love of Turkey and Wham.
It is however an odd time of the year, I think, especially as a student.
Everyone, almost overnight, becomes engrossed with work and deadlines. I am no different. For the last 2 months of my course I have lived free and happy from the imprisonment of essays.
However, now December is upon us and Santa's oiling up Rudolph, I too have caught the 'work bug'.
The 'work bug' is not a serious illness but it does have a lot of side effects. For example; You all of a sudden start panicking about what work everyone else is doing, and more importantly, how much they have done. If someone has written so much as a line or two more than you, alarm bells will ring.
Secondly, you are far too busy to go out and enjoy yourself. If an offer lands on your lap for a night on the tiles, whilst I have the work bug, I will turn it down, sighting work as my excuse. (Even though you'll end up sitting at home watching X Factor instead.)
Lastly, I should point out that the work bug effexts everyone differently. Some people choose to rid themselves of the bug instantly. Complete their work weeks before the deadline and relax. These people are organised.
Others, Decide to ignore the fact they have the bug until the latest possible moment and then splurge out on the illness during one frantic night of essay writing, usually the night before the hand in date.
I am solidly in the later category.
So before i pack my bags and head off home, myself and a hundred others, will be shaking off something far worse and far more common than swine flu, the work bug.
